FEB 20, 2009 - Childhood Memories (48) - The Library

When I was young, our family had an old set of encyclopedias. We had the same set for as long as I can remember, and all of the kids used and enjoyed them. We read them for fun when we were bored. Encyclopedias, always, make me think fondly of childhood. Weird one for childhood favorites, huh?

  1. You are right weird one, but do you want to know what is weirder? I remember our set of encyclopedias and reading thru them when we were bored - too funny!

  2. Nice picture. I remember when my parents bought us a set of encyclopedias. I remember reading it from A to Z. Are children who read encyclopedias like novels all doomed to post pictures on the web?

  3. Great Memory to remember back to when you used to look at the shelve from that vantage point, gtrat take and set up. Love it.

  4. Our World Book encyclopedias were not so colorful - Ivory and Hunter Green faux leather with gold lettering. But I remember using them for school assignments and occasionally browsing them too. Nice photo to capture the theme and memory.

  5. Oh my gosh! What a great idea for this theme! I remember so well the feel of the faux red leather covers of our family's set of World Books. And I can still envision at least one of the photos - an iron smelter. I remember doing many reports for school using them and being sort of disappointed when I out-grew them and/or the information became obsolete. At one point, I tried to convince my parents to let me have a horse (my fondest desire)if I memorized all the pertinent facts about horses from the World Book. They did NOT take me up on that deal! I'm sure my folks paid a pretty penny for that set, and would probably be quite tickled to know how fondly I remember them. THANK YOU for this trip down memory lane!

  6. I, too, loved our encyclopedias and read them for the pure enjoyment of it! Seems there are a lot of us "weird" kids, huh? A really neat take on the theme!

  7. This is so real...my fondest memory was of the neighborhood library. Never remember the encyclopedia, though, except when we bought a set for our children. Green and ivory, as I remember. Thanks for the good idea. I have been pondering what to use for my fondest childhood memory. Now I know!

  8. Great for the theme and I wouldn't say it's odd - maybe we all are.
